The Cornwall Coastpath is part of the South West Coast.
This runs continuously from Minehead in Somerset around the entire coastlines
of Devon and Cornwall and ends in Poole, Dorset. The path was originally
created for the use of the Coastguard who continuously patrolled the coastline
for smugglers and wreckers. The practice of wrecking involved deliberately
luring ships onto rocks in order to loot the wreckage. In recent years the path
has been re-established, giving everyone the opportunity to experience the
outstanding beauty of the South West Coast. Apart from its border with Devon,
Cornwall is surrounded by sea, with the English Channel to the south and the
Atlantic Ocean to the north. As a result of this, Cornwall has a long and
varied coastpath contrasting from the dramatic and mystical granite cliffs
around Landsend to the lush green estuaries of the Fal and Helford rivers.
Geology, flora and fauna may change as you walk around Cornwall's coastline but
you are seldom far from a secluded cove or a homely Inn. This, along with the
excellent food and traditional ales widely available, makes Cornwall's
Coastpath perfect for serious walkers and afternoon strollers alike. For more
