Picturesque Costal Towns

St Ives

St Ives

Only six miles away, St Ives is a very popular and vibrant fishing town. Walk along the spectacular coast path, wander through narrow cobbled streets, or just lounge on one of the town’s large sandy beaches. Alternatively, you may want to visit the Tate gallery or one of the many famed art shops, or you may just want to relax in one of the harbour pubs or seafood restaurants. Just watching the activity in the harbour, you may be lucky enough to watch the lifeboat practice launching across the beach. Whatever you choose to do you won’t want to leave. Sign-posted from Hayle.

Porthleven

Just nine miles away, on the edge of the Lizard peninsula, is the historic harbour of Porthleven. Two popular pubs have harbour and sea views, along with a number of cafes and restaurants. There are shops selling world acclaimed work by local artists and a short walk can get you onto the coast path or onto the large sandy award-winning beach between Porthleven and Gunwalloe. Take the B3302 to Helston, then it’s sign-posted from Helston.

Mousehole

Eight miles away, Just past Penzance, Mousehole enjoys spectacular views of Mounts Bay. Idylically peaceful now, having survived attack from the Spanish Armada, Mousehole is steeped in history. Sit in one of the pubs or restaurants that overlook the pretty fishing harbour, or walk along the newly built footpath running along the coast towards Penzance. Take the A30 to Penzance, then follow the signs along the promenade road through Newlyn and along the coast road.

Scenic Spots

St. Michael’s Mount

Dominating Mounts Bay, St Michael’s Mount is the smaller sister of Mont Saint Michel in Brittany. The enchanting castle and gardens are only accessible by a causeway that is totally submerged at high tide. The Godolphin Arms at the other end of the causeway provides the perfect place to sit and wait for the tide to go out! Take the A30 to Penzance and follow the signs for Marazion (4 miles).

Landsend

Photo Landsend

As well as being a highly popular family attraction, Landsend is one of the most dramatic and beautiful features of the Cornish Coast. Follow the A30 from Penzance to Landsend (15 miles).

Porthcurno

Standing on the cliffs next to the Minack open air theatre, looking down at Porthcurno beach and Logan Rock, it is hard to believe that you are on the English coast and not on a Mediterranean island. Take the A30 to Landsend, but turn left just before Landsend and follow the road towards Treen (17 miles).

Lizard Point

The rugged Lizard peninsula has always been a hazard to shipping. Little wonder then, that they built a lighthouse (open to the public) on the spectacular 200ft cliffs at Lizard Point. Take the B3302 into Helston, then take the A3083 to Lizard (20 miles).
